Match 49: KXI v. DC: Yuvaraj's Hat-trick help KXI stay in IPL 2!

The hat-trick by Yuvaraj Singh, the only player to have fetched two hat-tricks a season, helped KXI put pressure on DC. In the last over, 11 runs required and DC batsmen were not able to score. The wicket of Rohit Sharma was crucial which was picked by Irfan Pathan in the last over when DC needed 4 runs in 3 balls.

Yuvaraj picked his second hat-trick in the 14th over of the innings. He picked Gibbs caught at point of a short ball in the last ball of his second over and 12th over of the innings. He then bowled a beautiful delivery to beat Symonds. The ball was pitched on the middle and tempted Symonds to come out, the ball turned and beat him. Sangakkara fumbled but grabbed the ball in the second attempte and removed the bails.

Next delivery, poor decision by Venugopal to leave the ball pitched on the off and curvin in, lost his stumps.

At this stage, DC needed 54 from 36 balls. Rohit played another superb innings to bring DC into the match. Last 3 overs needed 43 runs and Rohit took on Mota. He hit him for two sixes and a four to get 18 runs to the board.

Last 2 overs needed 25 runs. Lee took Ravi Teja in the second ball but Rohit hit a six over square leg. The last ball was an over-stepped no ball which was also punished for over over third man. The re-bowled ball was a single to Rohit and he took the strike.

Last over needed 11 runs, Irfan Pathan to Rohit Sharma! Two runs of the first ball, four of the second ball to third man, next ball was a wide.

4 balls, 4 runs. Match in the hands of DC! Going for a big shot over mid on, he missed the ball and was bowled. Poor shot selection. He could have played a single or two!

3 ball, 4 runs. No run of the next delivery to RP Singh. DC panicking! 2 balls, 4 runs. RP Singh took on the slower short ball and hit it in the air. Irfan ran himself few yards and caught it!

1 ball, 4 runs. Harris hit it covers and went for two. Jaskaran Singh went for third as he was going to the danger end, but the poor decision by Harris to run to the pavilion after completing the second could have changed the game if he ran the third.

He may have lost his wicket, but a luck would have turned the game!

Earlier, put into bat KXI made 134. Sangakkara was the top scorer with 56 in 43 balls with 4 fours and a six.

Match 36: KXI v. DC: Jayawardene and Lee's heroics KXI win Crucial Match in Last over!

What a match? Last over require 8 runs and RP Singh couldn't control Lee and Chawla. Lee's come back has helped Kings XI win the crucial two points to stay in the competition for the first four spots!

Chawla scored 4 of the first ball of a short ball on the leg stump. He pulled it of the glove to the fine leg boundary! Chawla scored single of the next delivery to give strike to Lee. Lee swung and missed the slower ball. Fourth ball was two to long off and 5th ball went to mid on for the winning runs.

With last 3 overs requiring 29, Jayawardene ran himself out going for the second in Ojha's over. He also sustained hamstring injury and is doubtful for the next match on 12th against Mumbai Indians. He scored a boundary of the 2nd ball which brought down the equation to 19 off 2 overs.

Harris bowled the first three ball well to restrict with 3 runs, but Lee struck a powerful six over long off in the fourth ball. Singles were scored of the last 2 balls.

Jayawardene was given the man of the match for his responsible and winning knock of 43 in 28 balls which had a four and 3 sixes.

Put into bat, DC had a decent start adding 31 by the openers. Gilchrist, going against Sreesanth, hit a six in the first ball and tried to hit another, but it ended in the hands of Powar at mid on. Gibbs who fell for a duck in the previous game, scored 13 in this match. Suman and Sharma fell soon and put DC in the back seat. Sharma fell after the strategic break caught behind of Lee.

Symonds playing his first after return from Pakistan tour, gave a boost to DC. Though he struggled to score runs in the innings, he struk sixes and fours to DC end with 168. Symonds both Venugopal added 95 for the 5th wicket which fell in the last ball of the innings.

Symonds struck 4 sixes and 2 fours in his innings including 2 of Sreesanth. DC went from 73 in 10 overs to 168, adding 95. Sreesanth's over changed the match as he went for 20 runs including 2 sixes and a four from Symonds.

Playing his first match, he was 60 not out in 36 balls. Venugopal scored 32 in 25 balls.

The start was good for KXI. They were going at 10 runs per over at the end of 4th over. Sohal scored 30 out of the 40 on the board. The break-through came from Rohit Sharma, who picked a hat-trick in the previous game. He picked both the openers in his first over, both of them caught by Venugopal.

Yuvaraj and Sangakkara played slowly and built the innings. The momentum came from Symonds over as Yuvaraj hit a six of the first ball. Sangakkara hit another six in the 5h ball and a four off a rebowled wide ball.

The blow came in the 10th over when both the settled batsmen fell in the same over for poor shot selection. Sangakkara moving across to play over short fine leg missed the ball and was bowled. In the last ball of the 10th over, Yuvaraj going for a swing over mid wicket, took the top edge and went high in the air to give a catch to Gilly. Kings XI required 82 from the last 10 overs.

Jayawardene took the responsibility on his shoulders as he played singles and twos in the next four overs. In the 15th over, Irfan Pathan fell to Suman. Last 5 overs needed 50. Ojha bowled a tight over giving 5 runs.

Mota was run out going for the 2nd run. Jayawardene hit to long on but hesitated for the 2nd. By the time, Mota came down the track and could not go back on time.

To compensate for the wicket, Jayawardene hit 2 sixes and reduced the target to 29 off 18 balls. The match could have gone either way, but Kings XI held the nerve to get the two crucial winning points.

KXI win last over Thriller! Lee's heroics give KXI a Crucial Win!

RP Singh, the leading wicket taker so far in the IPL 2009, was not able to restrict KXI with 8 runs in the last over. The first ball was short on the leg and pulled over fine leg for a boundary by Chawla. Next ball was a single.

Third ball was a slower one and beat Lee who went for a slog. No run.

Fourth ball was driven to long off and went for two runs. Two balls, 1 run required.

All fielders are inside the circle. Bowled on the leg stump, and driven through wide off mid on for two runs.

Smile all over Yuvaraj. Though his attitude was not right in the presentation ceremony when he lost it to CSK, he was all over today with a victory! Crucial two points for KXI!
