Match 47: CSK v. MI: Hayden's Success Continues! CSK sends MI out of IPL 2!

In the crucial match for Chennai and Mumbai, it is a must win for MI to stay in the competition. But, Hayden--the Orange Cap holder for highest run scorer in this season, changed the fate of Sachin lead MI.

He also became the first batsman to cross the 500-run mark. Chasing 148, Chennai reached the target with 5 balls still remaining. Patel was trapped leg before of the first ball by Malinga.

Hayden and Raina played well but Raina fell for 20 caught and bowled by Bravo. He already hit a six in the 2nd ball over midwicket, but he messed another short ball to get an edge and get caught.

Badrinath played well and was involved in 40-run partnership with Hayden for the third wicket. His innings had 2 fours and a six off Kulkarni. The mistake was going for another slog over extra cover which took the outside edge on the way to Takawale.

I am not sure what the youngsters are taught these days! He used four letter word against Badrinath!

In the last 9 overs, CSK required 84 runs. Hayden was playing slowly and was struggling to score runs. He was on 16 off 29 balls when Dhoni joined him after Badri's wicket.

They played sensibly picking singles and two's, running between the wicket was good. Though Hayden was older than Dhoni, he was matching Dhoni during the quick twos.

Last 5 overs needed 46 runs. Nanda bowled the 16th over in which CSK scored 8 runs including a boundary by Hayden in the first ball. Malinga went for 11 runs including a poor down the leg stump delivery which rubbed the pads of Hayden and went for four.

Last 3 overs, 27 runs. Harbhajan v. Hayden. The first ball went for a leg bye but over throw gave another run to the total. The next ball was six over square leg which also brought half-century for Hayden. This is 5th half century, highest by any player in this season.

Third ball was a two again and fourth ball was a single. The ball hit the bottom edge of the bat and went past the keeper for a four. Lucky runs! Quick running brought 2 runs of the last ball.

10 runs required of 2 overs. Malinga bowled well as he restricted Chennai to just 2 runs of the first 4 balls. But the fifth ball went for 4 at square leg. He gave toom to score on the off side but Malinga bowled full on the pads to give an easy chance to Hayden.

Last over, 3 runs. The first ball was a wide and also a single was run. Dhoni hit a four of the next delivery and 2 points for CSK. Mumbai out of the tournament

Batting first, Mumbai lost Bravo for 5 to Morkel. Jayasuriya and Duminy played beautifully for the 2nd wicket. Duminy was playing wonderfully in this season. He has made his mark for Mumbai and has all the chance of becoming a match winnner next season.

Jayasuriya played a quick innings of 30 in 17 balls which had 3 fours and 2 sixes. Tendulkar got out for 11, trying to clear the midwicket was caught by Balaji.

Nayar and Duminy built 65 runs in 52 balls for the 4th wicket, it was a slow but an imortant partnership.

Duminy was run out in the last over for 62 which came in 54 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes.

Match 46: KXI v. DD: Lee's spell help KXI win 2 points and stay in IPL 2!

Put into bat, Delhi batsmen failed completely in putting a good score on the board. Sehwag went early caught behind of Lee for 9. Gambhir going for the 2nd run couldn't reach the crease in time as Mota's throw landed in Sangakkara's hand just above the stumps.

DeVilliers would be blaming himself for missing to send the short ball from Sreesanth for a sixer. He gave a simple catch to Yuvaraj at mid-on. Dilshan trying to play over mid on sent it just above Yuvaraj's head, but Yuvi caught it well. Two wickets for Sreesanth. Delhi in trouble with 52 for 4 in 10 overs.

Dinesh Karthik and Manhas added 50 for the 5th wicket before Manhas was caught by Sohal off Mota for 26. Maharoof was bowled by Lee for 3 and Vettori was caught for 1.

Dinesh Karthik was the last man to get out for 32 as Delhi ended with 120 on the board. Lee picked 3 wickets for 15 in his 4 overs including a maiden. Sreesanth had the best bowling figures of IPL 2 picking 2 for 20 in his 4 overs.

Chasing a moderate score, Kings XI lost 2 wickets with 35 on the board in 5.2 overs. Yuvaraj and Sangakkara played sensibly and took Kings XI closer to the target. They added 53 for the 4th wicket in 63 balls. Slow but steady!

Sangakkar struck two continuous fours in the 11th over. Last 5 overs needed 35 runs. Yuvaraj got out at crucial time as he hit the juicy short ball to Sehwag at point.

Last 4 overs, 33 runs. Bhatia bowled a tight line in the 17th over in which he gave 3 runs. KXI is on the losing line! 30 from 18 balls. Irfan Pathan hit two sixes in Sangwan's over--the first one over mid wicket and the second one went over square leg.

15 from 12 balls. Maharoof started with a wide on the leg stump. Second ball was a leg bye and no run on the next ball. Again a wide. 12 from 10 balls. Third ball was a six over long on. There was no fielder on the boundary line, otherwise it would have been a catch!

Last over needed 2 runs and it was scored off the first ball from Vettori.

Now, Kings XI Punjab has a chance to grab one of the last four positions! They have 6 wins in 12 matches and is in parallel with Deccan Chargers and Royal Challengers who are in 4th and 5th place.

Match 45: RR v. MI: Warne beat Tendulkar by 2 Runs!

In an unusual competition between Tendulkar and Warne, this time Warne has overtaken Tendulkar. The Rajasthan Royals beat Mumbai Indians in the crucial encounter by 2 runs.

To be frank, Mumbai panicked and lost the crcuial points in hand. Chasing 146, MU fell short by 2 runs losing all the wickets with one ball still in hand.

The match swung like pendulam starting with Mumbai as the favorites during RR's innings. Later, at the end the total was competitive, so kept it balanced.

While Mumbai batting, it swung in favor of RR but towards the end, until Sachin was in the crease, it was in Mumbai's favor. In the last ball, it stopped with RR.

Bravo and Takawale opened the innings, but Bravo fell in the 2nd over trying for a pull of a short ball which he miscued. Though two people trying for the catch, the bowler Munaf himself finally took it.

Rahane and Takawale added 14 in 21 balls for 2nd wicket. Rahane lost his wicket to Warne. Takawale followed him in the next over.

Jayasuriya and Tendulkar added 33 runs for the 4th wicket in 35 balls. The two experienced players had to ensure that they don't lose their wicket. Jayasuriya going for big hit over squre leg of the ball pitched on the leg stump was caught by Yusuf Pathan.

Mumbai needed 82 from 8 overs. Tendulkar opened up his shoulders with a six of Yusuf Pathan over long on.

Big blow came for Mumbai when Duminy dragged the ball to the stumps when he tried to cut to third man. Nayar joined Tendulkar for the 6th wicket.

66 runs required of 6 overs at 11 per over. Tendulakr hit 3 continuous over--all going straight back past the bowler and brought down the equation to 48 from 30 balls.

Tendulkar had to blame himself for playing a poor shot of Warne. With 5 runs coming in 2 balls including 3 wides, he moved across to sweep, missed it and trpped plumb in front of the wicket. Warne and RR delighted! Crucial wicket was lost for Mumbai.

39 required of 4 overs with Harbhajan and Nayar taking the challenge. Botha, who was cleared of the bowling action with a restriction on his doosra, went for two continuous fours by Nayar.

28 from 18 balls, 4 wickets in hand. Munaf Patel went for two continuous fours as well from Nayar.

14 from 12 balls, match in favor of MI. Botha had the ball in hand and went for 2 singles and a six in his first three balls. 6 from 9 balls. Nayar made a mistake when he tried to dig the ball and go for a run. The ball did not go far as expected and keeper Ojha picked it and removed the bails. Crucial wicket for RR as it put pressure on new batsmen.

Kulkarni didn't score the first ball he faced, next a wide and then a single was given to him. Tactical move by Warne as he moved fielders to deep to give single to Kulkarni and keep Harbhajan away from strike.

Last over, 4 runs, 3 wickets in hand. Munaf Patel bowled it superbly when he beat Kulkarni of the first ball. He tried to cut the ball to third man and missed it.

Kulkarni was trapped plumb in front of the wicket of a wonderfully bowled yorker.

4 balls, 4 runs, 2 wickets. Nanda, tried to swing a full toss, took the edge and went to midoff. He went for a run to give strike to Bhajji. Yusuf Pathan picked it cleanly and threw at the stumps.

3 balls, 4 runs, 1 wicket. Bhajji should not have done it with his experience. He pushed the low full toss to cover and went for a single.

2 balls, 3 runs, 1 wicket. Full toss on middle, Malinga hit it to cover and went for a single, but the fielder picks it easily and throws to Munaf who remove the bails, 2 points for RR.

Earlier, RR included Botha in the squad in place of M Morkel. The first wicket Quiney and Smith added 43 for the 1st wicket in 6.3 overs. A good start!

Yusuf Pathan was caught by Malinga of Nanda for 17. Quiney and Jadeja added 61 for the 6th wicket. Quiney scored a brilliant 51 off 40 balls which had 5 fours and 2 sixes. Jadeja contrbuted 42 in 32 balls.

Match 44: RC v. CSK: Batting collapse Chennai! RC gain Crucial Points!

Two continuous win for RC! They chased 174 in the previous match against Kolkata Knight Riders and today, they managed to chase 130 in the last over. Both the games ended in the last over but in favor of Royal Challengers. Now, they are one of the keen contenders for the semi-finals.

Chasing 130, they last 3 wickets with just 30 on the board. Kallis was trapped leg before in the first over. Albie Morkel has struck for the third continuous time in the first over of the innings.

Dravid played straight to Badrinath at point. Uthappa was also trapped leg before as RC was struggling with 33 for 3 in 6 overs.

Ross Taylor once again grabbed man of the match for his wonderful innings. He scored 46, played patiently and ensure that the team come closer to the target. He scored 46 off 50 balls, quite an opposite innings compared to his innings against KKR.

Kohli and Taylor built 56 runs for the 4th wicket as Kohli scored 38 off those. He hit 4 fours and 2 sixes. He ensured that he maintained the run rate under control and kept the scoreboard moving.

He pulled Balaji to midwicket where Oram took an easy catch. Boucher followed him for just 5, caught at slip by Hayden off Muralitharan's doosra.

Merwe was casual in his approach while coming back for the 2nd as he did not ground his bat. His bat was in the air and TV cameras rightly caught it.

The four byes by Dhoni reduced the target to 15 off 2 overs. Balaji's first ball went for a six by Praveen Kumar and reduced the target to 5 in the last over.

The first three balls were single and the fourth ball went for a boundary in third man.

RC has moved to 4th spot in points table with 6 wins in 12 matches. Royal Challengers have to play Delhi Daredevils on May 19th and Deccan Chargers on May 21--the last league match.

Earlier, deciding to bat, CSK had a good start. Vijay and Hayden added 32 for the first wicket. Vijay was the first one to go for 5.

Raina was caught brilliantly by Merwe at short mid wicket. The ball came late on the leg stumps, he played off the hips, but it went in the air. CSK were 52 for 2 in 6 overs.

Dhoni and Hayden well where Hayden continued his form. He scored his 4th fifty in this season of IPL. The third wicket partnership was broken by a superb catch by Merwe on his own bowling. Dhoni came down the track and hit it hard towards the right of Merwe. This was the turning point.

Only three players of CSK reached double figures--Hayden, Raina and Dhoni. Hayden scored 60 off 35 balls with 5 fours and 3 sixes. He is the leading the sixes table with most sixes.

From 101 for 4, CSK surrendered meekly to 129 all out in 19.4 overs. Catches win matches and it was proved in this match! Three good catches--Dhoni's caught and bowled by Merwe, catch at midwicket by Merwe to send Raina, catch by Vinaykumar off Kumble to send Hayden.

Match 43: DD v. DC: Dinesh Karthik and Gilly Fire! Bhatia's 4 wkts help DD Win!

It is confirmed that Sehwag and Gambhir lead Delhi Daredevils entered the semi-finals. Delhi is the first team to confirm their birth to the last four.

Put into bat, Delhi came from nowhere to put a winning 173 on the board. Thanks to Dinesh Karthik who played a brilliant innings to get 2 valuable points to DD.

Warner went early for Vaas for 4. Dilshan and Gambhir added 50 for the 2nd wicket in 29 balls. At the end of 10 overs, DD were 81 for 3 with Gambhir losing his wicket for 19 in the 10th over. He played an unusual innings as he took 25 balls for his 19 which had one six.

Sehwag came late in the batting order as he entered as 5th batsman. He was dropped by Symonds the first ball he faced. The 23-run partnership between DeVilliers and Sehwag was broken when Sehwag was caught by Symonds at long off for 11. The run rate slowed down as the wickets started falling. At the end of 15 overs, DD were 109 for 4, adding just 28 runs in five overs.

DeVilliers hit couple of fours in 17th over bowled by D Smith. Going for another four, he gave a catch to Ravi Teja at midwicket.

In the 18th over, Bhatia lost his wicket to Ojha. Karthik hit two continuous fours--one behind square leg and the other wide of long-on. DD were 140 for 6 in 18 overs.

In the 19th over from RP Singh, 10 runs were added including a six by Karthik in the last ball. The last over turned the match upside down. Mishra was run out in the first ball. The ball struck the pad and went to Gilly's direct hit found him short of crease.

This run out did help DD as Karthik came on strike. Second ball was a wide down the leg side but it went past Gilchrist to boundary adding 5 runs to the DD total.

Karthik's dive on return for the second run saved him. He then hit a six over square leg followed by a boundary. He did not go for a single on the penultimate ball. The last ball went for a six over mid wicket. The last over added 23 runs to DD's total as they went from 150 to 173.

Vaas was the highest run giver in an innings. He conceeded 52 runs in his 4 overs taking 2 wickets. He broke the record of Kallis, who went for 51 runs against KKR.

Chasing 174 was a huge task, but Gilly started it well as he scored 28 off the 33-run first wicket partnership. End of 3 overs, DC were 33 for 1. Rohit gave a simple catch to Warner at covers for 6.

Gilly and Ravi Teja steadied the innings with a 46-run partnership for 3rd wicket. He reached his 50 in just 24 balls which had 5 fours and 3 sixes. At the end of 10 overs, DC were 83 for 2, requiring another 91 runs in the last 10. Gilchrist chased the ball pitched full on the off stump, only managed to get inside edge and dragged to stumps. He scored 64 off 33 balls with 5 fours and 5 sixes.

Symonds played remarkably and kept the victory in sight till he got out. He scored a six and a four as soon as he was in the crease wasting no time. He hit Nannes to two continuous boundaries and took DC to 134 for 3 in 15 overs. Last 5 overs needed 40 runs.

Ravi Teja hit two fours of Nehra in the 16th and added 11 to the total. Nannes restricted DC to just 4 runs in the 17th and also picked Ravi Teja.

Last 3 overs needed 25 runs, still gettable. Fate had other plans for DC. Symonds was bowled by Bhatia trying to flick early of the slower one. Turing point of the match!

In the same over, he picked D Smith, also bowled. Pressure on DC hut! Two overs 22 runs. Nehra bowled the 19th with first ball going for 2 runs. Vaas picked a single in the next ball giving strike to Venugopal.

Venugopal tried to steer it behind keeper off a short ball, brushed the glove on the way to keeper Dinesh Karthik. Crucial blow!

Nehra bowled a good boucher which hit RP Singh. He hesitated a little and went for the run but could not reach the crease before Nehra's throw hit the stumps directly.

Vaas hit a boundary of the next ball and managed to score a single and retain the strike. Last over, 14 runs, two wickets in hand.

Bhatia bowled a low full toss to give a single to Vaas. Ojha's try to dig a wide full toss failed. He was bowled of the next ball.

Next delivery, Shoaib hit the full toss straight to DeVilliers at long on as DC ended their innings 12 runs short.

Bhatia finished with 4 wickets giving 15 runs in 2.4 overs and grabbed them man of the match.

Match Fixing in IPL? Modi to Get Back!

The IPL Commissioner Lalit Modi has said that he will review the TV footage and do an investigation.

KKR lost the match despite scoring 173. One of the top scorers of KKR, Bradd Hodge was dropped, but was seen in the hospitality box.

Since KKR is out of the competition, a win will not do anything to KKR but they can benefit if they lose the match to Royal Challengers. The win boosted the chance of RC making to the last four.

RC is playing their next match against CSK on May 14, 2009 at 4:00 PM IST.

Earlier, ICC cautioned BCCI about the possible corruption which the latter ruled out.
