Breaks are Breaking the Momentum in IPL 2!

The new rule implemented in the 2nd edition of the IPL has created controversies among the teams. The 7.5 minutes interveral at the end of 10 overs in each innings is breaking the momentum. This new rule gives time for commercials during the live telecast of matches.

I am not sure whether match is important or the money generated from the event is important! The money flowing BCCI need not do this! Game is important than the money. If someone in Pakistan says that they will pay US $1 billion $ for the touring Indian team, will they send our players?

The break can be set for 2 to 3 minutes and not more than that. Probably 3 more minutes during the innings break that will give them the 7 minutes they want. But, a break within an innings for 7.5 minutes is too long.

Let us see what few of the players say about the break:

Sachin Tendulkar (Captain, Mumbai Indians): The strategy break is good but can't imagine how they would help a side in a twenty over innings if at all everything is going their way.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni (Captain, CSK): It is a good move considering that the team gets those all important five minutes in case they need to work on a batsman or curb the flow of runs and in case they're batting, calculate the run-rate at which they need to move ahead.

Harbhajan (Mumbai Indians): "I don't think I am very happy with these strategy breaks. When you are bowling well, you just lose your rhythm."

Javagal Srinath (former Indian fast bowler): Technically, it could be an advantage or disadvantage. If you team is not doing well, the break is welcome as it helps stop the opponents' momentum. But if your team is doing well, it could be seen as a hindrance.
