Winning the toss and batting first in a slow pitch, Kings XI batsmen played bad shots and did not stay in the crease for longer period--Bopara (6 off 14), Goel (12 off 12), Yuvaraj (10 off 13), Jayawardane (7 off 9), I Pathan (7 off 10). Malinga once again bowled a tight spell of 2 for 12 in 4 overs though he picked the last two batsmen.
This put Kings XI in the back seat though they managed to set a target of 6 runs per over.
Mumbai Indians surprised every one falling short by 3 runs. Jayasuriya (0), Tendulkar (1) and Dhawan (3) fell quickly leaving MI at 12 for 3 in 4.1 overs.
Duminy and Bravo revived the innings and gave hope for MI. Bravo ruined it by going for a six and was caught at long on.
Nayar and Duminy played sensibly scoring ones and twos and not going for big shots. They added 49 for the 5th wicket before Nayar was bowled by Irfan.
26 required off 17 balls with Harbhajan joining Duminy. Harbhajan tried his best and hit a four in his innings. He was caught at long off by Goel of Chawla in the 19th over.
11 balls and 19 runs required; 7 runs were scored of Chawla's over and last over needed 12. Duminy got out in the 4th ball at deep mid wicket going for a six. If he had hit that with little more power, the equation would have changed to 1 run off 2 balls instead of 7 off 2 balls. Tiwari was able to manage 2 runs in the 5th ball. Still a four would have forced super-over, but he was able to score just one run.
Abdulla bowled superb over to give unpredicted victory to Kings XI and earn the crucial 2 points.
