Lalit Modi's Bail Order May be Revoked: HC

The Rajasthan High Court today issued a notice to Mr. Modi seeking an explnation from him as to why his bail order should not be revoked. He should have taken prior permission before leaving the country in a cheating case, but he did not do it before going to South Africa for the IPL 2 season.

He was granted anticipatory bail by Rajasthan High Court in a cheating case filed in Jaipur. The court granted him bail under Section 438 of Cr Pc and it stated that he could not leave the country without the approval of the court,” said Mr AK Jain, senior High Court lawyer representing the non-government organisation battling Mr Modi. Mr Modi’s bail plea had initially been cancelled by the lower court. Section 438 of Cr Pc states that those granted bail should be available for police interrogation.

The NGO alleged irregularities in the disbursement of Rs 6 crore. Modi handed over a cheque worth Rs 6 crore on behalf of the IPL to the former chief minister, Mr Vasundara Raje, last year for the Jaipur's serial bomb blast victims. The chief minister’s relief fund has reportedly received only Rs 5.2 crore.

The court is awaiting an explanation from Mr. Modi who is in South Africa enjoying the mega IPL event.
