Brendon McCullum has been appointed as captain of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) owned by Sharukh Khan. This is the second team which replaces the captain. Earlier, Vijay Mallaya changed the captain of Bangalore Royal Challengers. Dravid was replaced by Kevin Pietersen. During the season 1, Adam Gilchrist took over from Laxman.
The team and the captain was not decided until recently--even after the team reaching South Africa. There was speculation about having four captains in the team by John Buchanan. This theory opened controversies in the cricketing world.
"I don't know how it looks from the outside, but Sourav has been extremely supportive of my role in Kolkata Knight Riders, right from the inaugural season," McCullum wrote in his column for Times of India. "He is an icon who has always had a way with younger players and it is wonderful to watch how they respond and react to him. I am sure that Sourav will be one of the chief motivators for the youngsters in the group this year as well. As a unit, our expectations from him are high and we feel that he will now be able to express himself more freely as a batsman and of course he will be making huge inputs in planning and ideating."
Need to get a response from Ganguly. It is expected that he would be diplomatic and respectful in his reply, but inside his heart, it should be burning. Only him and God knows!
