deVilliers and Gambhir fell immediately adding pressure to the team at 49 for 3. Dinesh Karthik joined Dilshan and built a good partnership, need of the hour. At strategic break, DD needed 79 from 60 balls.
The momentum started when Karthik hit a six to square leg of Rohit Sharma. Dilshan took his turn and hit six of Dwyne Smith. The next 2 overs bowled by Ojha and Venugopal were good for DC as they gave away just 8 runs.
Equation changed to 48 off 5 overs. Karthik played a beautiful shot of the hips to mid wicket boundary in the 2nd ball of Edwards over. He gave away 10 runs in that over including a wide.
Venugopal's over turned the match in favor of DD as Karthik hit a two, a four and a single in the first four balls. Dilshan hit a flat six over mid wicket and then a four through covers. This over reduced 17 runs from the target and changed the equation to 21 from 18 balls.
Crucial blow came in when Ojha trapped Karthik in front of the wicket in the first ball of the 18th over. His bowled a good tight spell with just 4 runs and turning the match in favor of DC.
17 from 12 balls, and the ball was given to Edwards, main strike bowler.
Dilshan hit four of the first ball between mid off and extra cover. The second ball was a wide down the leg side. The re-bowled second ball was a good bouncer and hit the side of Dilshan's helmet.
The third ball was a no ball, overstepped in anxiety and emotions. The ball went for a four over mid wicket. Free hit went for 2 runs. Last ball was a short ball, Dilshan tactically stayed in the crease and pulled it over squard leg for a winning six. What a match for Dilshan? He turned the match for DD and pulled it from DC. He put a break on DC's winning sequence! Nannes was declared man of the match for his 2 for 16 of 4 overs.
Earlier, put into bat, Gilly and Gibbs didn't start the innings well. Gilly was caught behind in the first over for 8, though he hit 2 fours in it. Gibbs went for a duck. A 65-run partnership for the 5th wicket between Suman and Smith gave DC a chance to put a respectable total on the board. Venugopal added 16 for his part.
Nannes and Nehra picked 2 wickets each for DD.
