Match 29: CSK v. DC: Dhoni and Jakati help CSK win and reach top of table!

In the second round encounter between CSK and Hyderabad Deccan Chargers, the team work helped CSK to take sweet revenge! In the earlier match between these teams, (CSK v. DC), Deccan Chargers beat CSK by 6 wickets in the last over.

In the 2nd counter, Chennai beat Gilly's men by 78 runs and this helped them to reach the top of the table with 9 points. This is the first time CSK is reaching the top of the table.

DC surprised everyone with hat-trick victory in their first 3 matches, lost the last three encounters and are struggling for a break-trhough.

Deciding to bat, CSK put 178 on the board. Though they looked like touching 200, the run-rate come down in the middle. Dhoni and Raina slogged at the end to make it to 178.

Dhoni, accepted that his form in this edition of IPL is poor and he need to score runs. He proved that he can score runs at the crucial games! He is an open man and admitted on his form and poor average in the first 7 matches of CSK.

Dhoni and Vijay put 38 in 32 balls for the 2nd wicket. They ensured that no wicket was lost as it is required towards the end of the innings.

Earlier, Hayden and Vijay put 61 run partnership for the first wicket. Hayden, as usual, played good shots including his favorite stepping down the track and hitting over bowler's head. He scored 46 off 26 balls with 5 fours and a six.

CSK started good with Hayden and Vijay hitting a four each in the first over. The first seven overs, CSK had either a boundary or six or both. Murali Vijay played an impressive innings of 31 off 33 balls.

During the strategic break, CSK were 84 for 1. Raina joined Dhoni in the 13th over and hit Suman for a four, six, and six in the 15th over. That gave the momentum for CSK. At the end of 15, CSK were 130 for 2. The 5 overs added 46 to the total with a wicket of Vijay.

Dhoni hit couple of fours in 17th over. Dhoni was hitting the ball hard and played his favorite digging shot. Raina trying to for a six, didn't time it well as it ended in the hands of Dwyane Smith at long on. Dhoni and Rayna added 54 for thhe 3rd wicket 35 balls. Raina made 32 in 19 balls with a four and 2 sixes.

Dhoni reached his first 50 in this edition with a four in the 20th over with a pull of the short ball from RP Singh. His fifty came in 35 balls with 5 fours and a six. Last over added 13 including two boundaries by Dhoni. He was unbeaten on 58 off 37 balls with 6 fours and a six.

Chasing 179, the start has to be great! The plan of CSK was to restrict both Gilly and Gibbs. The plan worked out as Morkel trapped Gilchrist plumb in front of the wicket through a yorker of the first ball. Laxman played out the rest of the over without adding a run. Wicket maiden for Morke. What else CSK needed?

In the second over, Gibbs trying to play on the on side, missed the line, got it on the pads and went to stumps. Gibbs also gone for a duck in 2 balls. Rohit Sharma played the remaining 4 balls without adding a run. If Tyagi didn't bowl a wide, he too would have got wicket maiden.

The third over also got a wicket for CSK as Laxman played of the pads straight to Jakati at mid wicket for third duck of the innings. Dwayne Smith six runs of the third over to take DC to 7 for 3 in 3 overs. Dream start for CSK!

While enjoying the going, temporary nightmare came in the form of Dwayne Smith and Rohit Sharma. What an innings they played? The firing started from the 4th over. Smith started it with a huge six of Tyagi.

Morkel was punished in his 3rd over with two sixes and a four. All shots were pure cricketing shots.

Balaji was introduced in the sixth over but the nightmare continued. He also went for 2 sixes and a four. But this time, Rohit hit a six and four and Smith a six. The burden was shared. End of six overs, DC were 52 for 3. From 7 for 3 in 3 overs, it was a good recovery by Smith and Rohit.

Jakati, who picked 4 wickets against Delhi was brought into attack. He went for 10 runs in his first over including a six by Smith. The partnership was broken by Jakati with a well flighted delivery on the middle and leg which Rohit Sharma hit it over midwicket, but straight to Badrinath.

Next delivery was a poor piece of work by Jakati. The ball was hit to deep cover for a single. Jakati did not collect the ball at bowlers end. Smith tried to use that for extra run, Suman responded, but negated it immediately. That was too late for him to say no as Smith was almost ran 3/4th of the pitch. The ball was thrown at him, again Jakati misses to collect cleanly but hits the stumps with the hands. Seeing it, Smith started running back and in the pressure, Jakati picked the ball and threw at stumps which missed it. He should have picked the stumps with the ball in hand or at least threw at Raina because he had all the time in the world to run out Smith. Poor fielding and comedy of errors!

But in the same over, Smith trying to sweep, missed the ball and got trapped in front of the wicket. Jakati provided the big breakthrough as he picked two wickets in one over.

Bravo missed half-century by a run, but it was a good innings which came of 23 balls with 2 fours and 5 sixes.

Venugopal was out after the strategic break for 2 caught by Muralitharan of Jakati.

The poor fielding continued with Raina and Badrinath missing the opportunity to hold on to a catch from Suman. First it was Raina in his own bowling and the next delivery went to Badrinath at long off.

Jakati had Harris bowled for 1 to claim his 4th wicket. This is 2nd four wicket haul.

Muralitharan picked two pickets in two deliveries to send RP Singh and Suman, both playing same shot, caught at same place by same fielder. Raina picked the last man Ojha caught at midwicket for a duck.

Muralitharan is on a hat-trick in the next match. If he picks wicket in his first delivery, it will be a hat-trick for him.

Dhoni rightly given man of the match award for his blisttering 58.
