Earlier, deciding to bat first, KKR once again did not had the expected start. Gayle was asked to stay back for this game. Otherwise, he would have gone back to England for playing the test series.

McCullum and Gayle opened the innings and added 23 for the first wicket. Gayle was caught by Yuvaraj off Abdulla for 17.

McCullum and Hodge added 31 for 2nd wicket with McCullum getting out 3rd ball after the strategic break. He scored 19 off 31 balls, an unsual innings from the captain. He really slowed down the pace of the game. At the end of 10 overs, KKR were 52 for 1. But Hodge took the ownership completely and took the game singly handedly.

So far, he is the only player to have scored 10 fours in an innings. He reached 50 in 36 balls with 6 fours and a six. Ganguly scored quick 22 off 17 balls. He along with Hodge scored 40 runs in 5 overs and took the score to 92 for 2 in 15 overs.

It was Hodge who have respectable and fighting total for KKR. The 16th over of the innings had 13 to the total with a six by Ganguly. He also got out trying to play his favorite shot of the leg spinner. The ball took the edge, went in the air, did not even cross the pitch.

Hodge reached his 50 in the 19th over, 3rd ball. KKR were 132 for 3 in 19 overs. The match turned in the 20th over. Hodge scored 21 runs in Irfan Pathan's over which included 3 continuous fours and six of the last ball. All the shorts were pure cricketing shorts and played with full power. One four over extra cover, 2nd straight past bowler and third one in mid wicket. The six was over mid wicket off a full toss. This gave the KKR a load of confidence to fight KXI.

Chasing 154, Sangakkara was dismissed in the 5th ball of the first over for a duck. Few catches were dropped by KKR. Sohal was dropped continuously in 2 balls of Dinda--one by himself and other by Saha. Gayle dropped Katich when he was on 5. Both proved costly for KKR

Sohal hit two sixes of Dinda and Katich scored a six. From 13 for 1 in 3 overs, KXI went to 35 for 1 in 4 overs. Sohal hit another six before getting caught by Ganguly of Agarkar.

At the end of 6 overs, KXI were 51 for 2. In the 10th over, Katich hit the full toss in the air where Saha took a brilliant diving catch at deep midwicket.

73 required of last 10 overs. Yuvaraj and Jayawardene moved the scoreboard scoring singels and odd boundaries. Yuvi fell in the 15th over for 14.

Last 5 overs needed 38 runs. Gayle bowled a good 5-run 16th over. Next over from Murali Karthick added 8 to the total including a boundary. The revised equation is 25 from 18 balls.

Agarkar's 18th over had a chance for taking a wicket. Gayle's throw missed the stumps. However, Pathan played the full to fine leg and scored a boundary.

18 from 12 balls. Ishanth Sharma did not bowl the crucial 19th over. Jayawardene scored a boundary of the 2nd ball as he lofted the ball over mid-off. The fielder was inside the circle and Jayawardene played it over the fielders head.

Irfan Pathan pulled a short ball to midwicket boundary for another four. Poor bowling.

Last over required 7 and KXI scored it in the last ball. What a match! KXI should be happy and KKR's McCullum was completely disappointed and dejected. What else he can do if luck is also against him!
