Match 24: RC v. KXI: Yuvaraj's Hatrick in vain as RC win by 8 Runs!

Yuvaraj picked the first hat-trick of this season dismissing Uthappa, Kallis, and Boucher. He picked 2 wickets in the last 2 balls of his 2nd over and picked Boucher's wicket in the first ball of his 3rd over.

This is the 4th hat-trick in IPL with 3 coming in the first edition held in India in 2008.

This win has given RC a chance to come back to the competition and reach semis. This should give lot of confidence and energy to the team. Deciding to bat first, as usual, RC lost wickets at regular intervals. The 42-run partnership for the 4th wicket was the highest of the RC innings. Kallis and Uthappa added 42 in 34 balls.

Uthappa, Kallis and Boucher fell for Yuvi. Merwe showed his all-rounder skills and contributed valuable 35 in 19 balls which included 3 sixes and 3 fours. Abdulla another strike bowler for KXI picked 4 wickets while Yuvi ended with three.

Chasing 137 against the weak bowling attack is always easy. But, this match proved it otherwise. As Bopara went to England to play against WI, Yuvi opened the innings with Goel. They both played well and added 70 for the first wicket. Yuvi scored 50 in 34 balls with 3 fours and 4 sixes. Goel followed Yuvi for 20.

73 needed in 9 overs with 8 wickets in hand. Katich playing his first match was run out of an excellent fielding by Merwe at point.

The last 44 required of last 4 overs. Jayawardane looked dangerous for a while as he hit two continuous fours of Praveen Kumar in the 17th over. Praveen gave away 14 runs to change the equation to 30 in 3 overs.

Merwe picked the wicket of Jayawardane caught at point. But, his poor bowling helped KXI to score two more fours in that over--one leg bye down the leg stump and the other full on the leg stump which was easily put to square leg. That over added 13 runs to the toal with 17 required of 2 overs.

Kumble picked the wicket of Sangakkara, the man for KXI fell for Kumble. Moving on the leg side to give room for a cut, the ball didn't bounce as he expected and knocked the stumps. He bowled a tight over giving just 4 runs in the 19th.

Praveen Kumar bowled the last over with no run in the first ball. The second ball went for a four by Irfan Pathan. Irfan did not read the slower ball and no run scored in the next delivery.

9 runs in 3 balls. Irfan did not put enough pressure on the low full toss as it ended in the hands of Kohli, his second catch.

9 from 2 balls, Piyush Chawla trying to slog of a inswinging yorker. The ball took the inside edge and knocked the bails. No run was scored of the last ball as Royal Challengers tasted their 3rd win.

Interesting match as Yuvi picked a hat-trick, then scored a 50 and put 70 run partnership for the first wicket. The match changed with a good spell by Kumble in the middle of the innings as he also picked 2 wickets.

Match 14: DD v. RC: Poor Fielding and Bowling lead to 4th continuous Loss!

Royal Challengers had the match in their hand though their score was not that great! One over from Kallis changed the match in favor of DD in which a catch was dropped by Uthappa at long on. The next ball was a mis-field and went for four. Two additional fours in the same over added to the concern of RC.

Kallis started the 17th over with DD requiring 43 runs in 24 balls. Manhas scored 2 in the first ball and then a single. The 3rd ball was a wide while the next ball was a huge six by Dilshan over wide of long-on. The first three balls had 10 runs.

Dilshan scored a single in the 4th ball. The fifth ball was a drop catch and a four. The last ball was a mis-field and went for four. The over had 19 runs to DD's total and changed the equation to 24 off 18 balls. Last 12 balls required 15 while the last over required just 3 runs which DD finished it very easily.

Earlier, DD lost Sehwag for 7 while Gambhir scored just 16. Both the batsmen fell for Pankaj Singh. Then, Dilshan took it from them, steadied the innings, stayed till the end, won the game for DD. He scored unbeaten 67 off 47 balls which had 5 fours and 2 sixes.

The only centurian of IPL 2009 de Villiers also fell for 21. Dinsh Karthik scored 13 while Manhas was not out on 23.

Batting first, Royal Challengers once again failed in the batting and the power play. Kallis was bowled the first ball, misjudging the in-swinger. He left the ball to the keeper, but the ball swung in and knocked the bails.

Uthappa once again failed with the bat. This is not a good season for him so far as he failed both with his bat and gloves. He added just 3 runs to the total leaving RC struggle at 10 for 2 in 1.2 overs.

Pietersen and Taylor played sensibly building partnership. They took singles and twos to keep the scoreboard moving. They added 62 for the 3rd wicket in 8.1 overs. Pietersen was timing the ball well and hit couple of good sixes and fours. He hit a good six of Vettori and looked to handle him well. The only mistake he did was playing his favorite stand-switchng shot off Vettori. He missed the ball and was bowled for 37. Boucher played some good shots at the end to give a reasonable total of 149 for RC.

Dravid Returns Home! Worry for RC!

One of the leading batsmen of Bangalore Royal Challengers, Rahul Dravid, has returned to India to see his wife who is ready to deliver the 2nd baby of his family.

He is on paternity leave and will return to South Africa, but not sure when. He has been playing well though his team is not performing well in the second edition. Bangalore Royal Challengers captured the last but one place in the first edition.

In the second edition, out of the 5 matches, RC have won only one match, against Rajasthan Royals. He has scored 144 runs in the 4 games with a strike rate of 135.84.

Kevin's team is under a lot of pressure for losing the last four games and without Dravid, the pressure is more on Royal Challengers.

The current skipper Kevin Pietersen is also expected to fly back home for playing against West Indies, in the home series. The worries are more for Royal Challengers!

Match 11: KXI v. RC: Bopara Stars in XI's First Win! Praveen Messes it Up for RC!

What's happening in RC camp? Even Pietersen is not sure and that's why he said, "I don't know mate." They were better during the powerplay in the match against Kings XI Punjab. The match was almost in the hands of Royall Challengers until Bopara and Yuvaraj smashed the last few overs for important boundaries and sixes.

Earlier, RC reached their highest total of this season scoring 168. Once again, Kevin Pietersen fell for a duck. Ryder scored useful 32, while his other opening partner Uthappan scored a duck.

Kings XI scored their first win of this season losing both of their earlier matches under D/L Method due to rain. They lost it against Delhi and against Kolkata.

Bopara top scored with 84 off 59 balls and helped KXI register their first win in three matches. In the last 10 overs, KXI required 89 runs with 9 wickets in hand.

Kumble took the crucial wicket of Sangakkara for 26. Last 5 overs required 60 runs and the 16th over from Praveen Kumar in which Bopara scored all the 19 runs which changed the equation to 41 in 24 balls. Kallis bowled the 17th and gave 13 runs including two fours by Yuvaraj.

The last 18 balls required 28 runs. Ryder's over contributed 17 to the total which included 2 sixes by Bopara. The last 12 balls required 11 runs. Kallis provided break through by taking the wicket of Bopara, who did not read the slower ball and edges it to deep midwicket where Ryder took a sliding catch. But, the wicket came too late in the innings Yuvaraj scored a four and a six of the last ball of the over to give KXI their first winning point.

Earlier, for RC, though Uthappa was out for a duck, Kallis and Ryder consolidated the innings. They added 42 for the 2nd wicket in 25 balls, but both Ryder and Pietersen fell in the same over. Taylor contributed 35 and took the final score to 168. Abdulla picked 4 wickets while Irfan Pathan picked 3.

Chennai in Do-or-Die Match!

In the crucial encounter today in the IPL league match, it is almost like a quarter final for Chennai. They have to win their game against Hyderabad Deccan Chargers, who has nothing to lose regardless of the result.

The last ball defeat for Mumbai Indians has pushed Delhi Daredevils into Semi-Finals.

Read: Points Table

Delhi has 15 points from their 14 games. But Chennai and Mumbai Indians have one game left. Chenni has 14 points and Mumbai has 12 points. If Chennai win their game against Deccan Chargers, they will qualify to Semi-Finals with 16 points regardless of a win to Mumbai, which would end ther 14 games with 14 points.

If Chennai loses and if Mumbai wins, then net run rate comes into play. If Mumbai lose thier last match against Bangalore Royal Challengers, Chennai qualifies as they are already leading in points.

Let us see whether Chennai Super Kings lead by Indian Skipper Dhoni can withstand the pressure and enter the last four. Please remember that in the last encounter in Chennai between these two teams, Deccan beat Chennai by 7 wickets with 12 balls to spare.

Match 46: Chennai's Complecent! Loses to Bangalore! Dravid Happy!

Has complacency set-in in the minds of Dhoni and Chennai Super Kings team? An easy target to chase, pitch is good, though not great, confirmed birth for semi-finals. Every Chennai Supporter had a great shock on the attitude of the Chennai players.

Chasing 127 in 20 overs in a T20 game is easy including regular 50 overs match. The start was good, both Fleming and Parthiv Patel played very well to bring the score to 44 at the end of power play. With 14 overs, 83 to win, with all the 10 wickets in hand, no team would miss it. Today was an exception for Chennai and the day belong to Bangalore! Sure they were expecting another defeat until they got the wicket of Morkel.

The break through came in the form of luck for Kumble and Bangalore. It is like self-goal in football or hockey. The drive by Patel went straight to Kumble for an easy caught and bowled chance, but be missed it and ball popped out of his hands and hit Fleming, the non-striker and rebound in the air again. This time Kumble held it easily. At the end of 10 overs, Chennai were 61 for 1, requiring 66 in 60 balls.

Dhoni got out to a rash shot. He did not time the lofted shot well and gave a simple catch to Kumble at long on.

Fleming hit a six and a four of Vinaykumar in the 13th over. When he gave room for himself to take a full toss and hit it on the leg side. He misses the shot and last his leg stump, which hit keeper Boucher knees, who suffers in real pain. Fleming lost the grip of the bat and it was flying in the air. Umpires found that there were only 3 players in the 30 yard circle and call a no ball. Lucky Fleming. Bats again.

With all this luck where Patel was dropped and Fleming out on a no ball, Chennai should have won this game!

The luck did not continue for Fleming as he was out sweeping Kumble and caught at deep square leg. He scored 45 off 40 balls with 3 fours and 2 sixes. He won the award for DLF most sixes!

In the same over last ball, the final over for Kumble, Badrinath tried to play the sweep, but got trapped plumb in front of the wicket. Two wickets in an over! Bangalore is getting back in the game! Their confidence level goes up!

Steyn was brought in to bowl the 16th over. The good bouncer was well handled by Morkel but it went straight to Vinaykumar in deep square leg. Unnecessary short at this stage as Chennai needed only 34 from 28 balls--not difficult in T20.

Steyn's bowled another short ball to Vidyut and he tried to pull. The ball hit the top of the bat and went straight to short midwicket where Kallis took a good one handed diving catch. One more 2-wicket over for Bangalore.

End of over 16, Chennai were 93 for 6, requiring 34 from 24 balls. Raina hit a boundary of Kallis in the 2nd ball, but did not utilize the rest of the overs. Just with another single, that over added 5 to the total. 29 off 3 overs.

Praven Kumar bowled the 18th over and was smashed for two boundaries by Raina and Gony. With a wide and single, alredy 10 runs of that over in 3 balls, Gony should have played sensible to retain his wicket for other overs. He tried to hit another four of a shot ball and mistimed it and Steyn took the catch near the circle at mid off.

Two overs, 18 runs, 3 wickets in hand. Steyn bowled the penultimate over and gave just 2 runs and Balaji was run out. Last over, 16 runs with 2 wickets.

Raina trying for scoring all the runs of Praveen Kumar, could not do much on the yorker length deliveries. Though singles could have been taken in the first two balls, he did not go for it as he was not confident of Nitni.

Third ball was a single and no run on the fourth ball, victory to Bangalore!

No run was scored in the last two balls and Bangalore takes two points and moves one place above in the points table. Dravid is a happy man and was seen pumping in the air just before the last ball.

Earlier, deciding to bat, Bangalore started slow. They never looked dangerous. Kallis was caught at slip by Fleming of Gony. In the next over, Fleming dropped a sitter in slips for Goswami. In the 6th over, Goswami walked himself though umpire ruled him not out for a caught behind appeal. He showed the spirit!

Dravid alone looked dangerous. He found his form and was playing like a real T20 player! He played great innings in the last few matches, though it did not help his team to win.

Misbha, who scored 47 in the previous match, could not continue his form. The outswinger pitched on the off, took the edge of Misbha and went to the right of Patel, who took a brilliant one handed diving catch.

Dravid hit at least one boundary in regular intervals, almost in every over. He hit two continuous fours of Balaji to take Bangalore to 87 at the end of 16 overs. He was caught at short extra cover by Dhoni of Morkel for 47 off 39 balls with 5 fours.

Praveen Kumar hit two fours of Nitni and then a four and a six of Balaji. Those two overs added 24 to the total.

Last over was bowled by Morkel. Praveen Kumar and Vinay Kumar got out in consecutive deliveries, giving hat-trick chance to Morkel. Praveen was bowled of a yorker and Vinay, trying to slog, saw his off stump flying.

Kumble scored two runs in the next ball and prevented hat-trick. It was almost half-a-chance but missed by Muralitharan.

Kumble was declared man of the match for his 3 wickets.
