Match 51: KKR v CSK: McCullum and Hodge seal long waited win for KKR!

The poor bowling cost the match for CSK. During the innings break, Srikanth mentioned that KKR has good batsmen like McCullum, Hodge, Ganguly, Hussey who are dangerous. He was right in cautioning CSK about it!

Chasing 189, KKR has never done that before in IPL 2. CSK would have felt the same result in this match but KKR had something different in store.

McCullum's firing 81 and Hodge's unbeaten 71 saw KKR win their first match after a long gap. This is their second win in 13 matches!

No bowling change helped Dhoni as McCullum was in full form. He blasted two fours in the first over by Morkel whereas Tyagi restricted Ganguly for a single.

McCullum demolished Morkel completely as he dictated the terms. He hit a six, a four, a four of no ball. That over added 16 to the total and KKR reached 27 in 3 overs.

Ganguly tried his best to score but nothing went in his favor this time. He would be okay as long as the team wins! He gave room and tried to cut the ball pitched on leg stump. The ball took inside edge and rubbed the stumps. Only Dhoni found the bail falling and appealed it correctly.

McCullum did not bother about Ganguly getting out. He hit Tyagi in both the sides of the pitch! He started with a four through cover point, another four in fine leg, third four to mid-wicket, fourth continuous four to extra cover and a six over fine leg in the last ball. With that six, he also reached 50 in just 21 balls.

The next two overs were silent and KKR were 83 for 1 in 10 overs, requiring 106 in 60 balls. Oram missed a chance at long-on for McCullum which could have turned the match in favor of CSK. McCullum sloged the delivery from Jakati but did not time it well as it went straight to Oram, above his head. He stepped back, jumped, got a touch but missed it. It went for a six! He was on 66 when the chance was missed!

Finally McCullum fell in the last ball of the 14th over from Jakati. McCullum tried to slog Jakathi, the ball brushed the bottom of the bat and skims the off stump. Dhoni appeals and the umpire refrred to TV umpire. First it looked like Dhoni was appealing for stumping, but the TV replay showed that the ball brushed the stump and dislodged the ball. He returned to the dug out for 81 in 48 balls which had 11 fours and 3 sixes.

5 overs 58 runs. Hussey was run out and the match was turning towards CSK. Saha hit a six and a four of Balaji to reduce the equation to 38 from 18 balls. Morkel went for 13 runs in the 18th over.

Last 12 balls, 25 runs. Balaji's over turned the match in favor of KKR, taking them closer to victory. First ball Hodge hit a six over long off, the next two balls were one run each, another six over bowlers head, a four of the last ball by Saha.

Last over, 6 runs needed. Raina was given the ball. He bowled a tight line and never game room. He bowled flat and did not give chance for the batsmen to come down the track. No run in the first ball, a single of the second ball by Hodge, third ball was another single by Saha, fourth was a single.

The quick running between the wickets brought two runs in the fifth ball. Last ball, one run to win. Raina bowled a little wide, Saha reached it and chipped it over cover. There is no fielder in the cover as KKR reaches the winning target!

Earlier, CSK scored 188 in 20 overs losing 3 wickets. Hayden was rested in this match too. Patel and Baily opened the innings and played well. They added 59 for the first wicket in 37 balls.

Both the batsmen were run out trying to steal a single. Raina scored 52 in 36 balls with 3 sixes and 3 fours. Dhoni remained not out on 40 while Morkel scored 21 in 10 balls.

Match 18: RR v. DD: Yousuf Pathan too Hot for Delhi! Stops Delhi's Winning Sequence!

Yousuf Pathan who scored 62 not out of 30 balls with 6 sixes and 3 fours helped Rajasthan Royals beat Delhi Daredevils

Yousuf Pathan was the man for Rajasthan Royals who completely changed the match for Rajasthan Royals. He hit the Sehwag's best spinner Vettori for a four and 2 continuous sixes in the 13th over of the innings which changed the pace of the game.

Struggling at 67 for 5, requiring 77 from 48 balls, the equation changed to 58 from 42 balls. His knock of unbeaten 62 came in just 30 balls with 3 fours and 6 sixes.

When he came in, RR needed 80 from 53 balls. He scored 62 runs in 30 balls and took the game away from DD. Though he had luck twice--first when tried to sweep Vettori, mistimed the shot and went high in the air to fine leg, but the fielder was not able to reach on time; second, Sangwan dropped the straight catch at long off Mishra. He was on 31 and RR needed 29 from 22 balls. If that catch had been taken, DD could have tried their hand.

Sehwag did not do anything, in fact, he was not able to do anything as his key bowlers were hammered for sixes. Pathan also hit two sixes of short balls over square leg and mid wicket respectively. If he gets going, it will be difficult to stop him!

Earlier, Warne promoting himself to steady the scoring, got out stumped beautifully by Dinesh Karthik of Mishra.

Gambhir and Sehwag once again failed and did not bother the scorers much. It was surprising to see McGrath did not make his debut in this edition yet.

Mascarenhas picked both the openers in the same over to put DD undre pressure. The man in form Dilshan also fell for 7 to Munaf Patel. Karthik gave a return catch to Warne. DeVilliers and Vettori added 56 for the 5th wicket and that gave DD a chance to fight back. Manhas scored a quick unbeaten 23 off 16 balls with 2 fours and a six.

Match 10: RR v. KKR: Match Tied, but Y Pathan's Sixes help RR win in Super Over!

In the closely faught match between Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders, Warne's RR had the final laugh.

The match in hand was lost by KKR. Last over required 7 runs, but lost Ganguly in the penultimate ball. Last ball required 2 runs, but it was too much for Ishanth Sharma. He drove the ball towards cover where Warne did a wonderful diving stop. While going for the 2nd run, Ishanth was well short of his crease.

This created Super Over where each team has to select three batsmen and one bowler.

Gayle, McCullum and Ganguly were selected to bat for KKR and Kamaran Khan bowled for Rajasthan Royals:

Ball 1: Single to long off by Gayle;
Ball 2: Single on a hip-height full toss by McCullum. He asked for a no-ball but umpires denied it;
Ball 3: Wide;
Ball 3: Four over mid on by Gayle, over pitched and chipped over long on
Ball 4: Four over square leg by Gayle; pitched on leg stump and he flicked it;
Ball 5: Four over mid wicket by Gayle; He stayed close to the wicket and hit it over mid-wicket.
Ball 6: Caught beautifully by Quiney at deep cover; ball pitched on the wide off stump which he tried to cut but went straight to sweeper cover;

KKR scored 15 runs for 1 wicket in 1 over. RR needed 16;

RR selected Y Pathan, RA Jadeja, and Mascarenhas and KKR had Mendis for bowling;

Ball 1: Six over long-off by Pathan;
Ball 2: He hit it over long on but went high in the air; dropped; Proper adjustment would have turned this match;
Ball 3: Six over deep mid-wicket by Pathan;
Ball 4: Four by Pathan wide of square leg

RR reached 18 in 4 balls and win the crucial 2 points

I don't fight with Girls: Sharukh Khan

In a chat with the private television channel anchor, Sharukh Khan said that he does not fight with girls. He mentioned that his son can fight, but not him. He can only hug and kiss them.

Mandira Bedi, one of the anchors of IPL in Set Max channel that broadcasts IPL season 2, asked Sharukh Khan on how he see the rivals Preity Zinta (owner of Kings XI Punjab) and Shilpa Shetty (owner of Rajasthan Royals). Sharukh replied smilingly, "I don't fight with girls. My son can. I can only love them, hug them and kiss them. In fact, all three of you (Preity Zinta, Shilpa and Manidera Bedi) were launched by me."

Match 7: MI v. RR: Rain Wins! One Poing Each!

Rain won the match between Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals. The match was much expected because of the clash expected between Sachin and Warne. This cannot be seen anywhere, especially in a serious cricket.

The umpires waited till the allowable time, but could not start the match.

Each team has gained one point and with this, Rajasthan Royals entered the points column in the table and Mumbai moved to 3 points and leading the table as of now.

This is the first match to be abandoned due to rain. The match between Kings XI Punjab and Kolkata Knight Riders was also stopped due to rain, but by that time, the minimum number of overs were bowled and hence the decision was given in favor of KKR.

Lowest Score in IPL!

In both the seasons of IPL, Rajasthan Royals lead and coached by Shane Warne scored the lowest runs in an innings.

In the 2nd match of the IPL 2 season, Rajasthan played against Bangalore Royal Challengers, thought to be one of the weakest team. They were rubber-stamped as Test Team in the first season and their batting in their first encounter in season 2 almost proved the same.

Though Kevin Pietersen's side were restricted for 133, Kumble's five wicket haul helped them to bundle Rajasthan Royals for a meagre 58 in 15.1 overs--the lowest score in IPL history.

The last year's winners were got a heavy beating and could not manage to surpass the easy target of 134. The former Indian captain and strike spinner, Anil Kumble picked 5 wickets for Bangalore Royal Challengers.

In the first match, Mumbai Indians beat last year's finalist Chennai Super Kings by 19 runs and opened their account in the poionts table.

In the 2nd match, Bangalore Royal Challengers beat Rajasthan Royals by 75 runs. This would also put RR behind in the net run rate as they were beaten by a huge margin.

Warne Sacks Kaif!

The Rajasthan Royals coach and skipper Shane Warne has sacked Kaif and other 6 players from the Rajasthan Royals team for the IPL season 2. His performance in the practice--warm up game, was also not good.

He had a poor season 1 and he needs definite improvement. Other six players are: Dinesh Salunkhe, Paras Dogra, Anup Revandkar, Srideep Mangela, Ashraf Makda and Azhar Malik.

All these players returned to India and they may go back if any of the players get injured.

IPL 2 Begins in SA Today!

IPL season 2 begins in South Africa today. Though Indian Government was not able to provide enough security, the Government of South Africa immediately accepted the request and made all preparations required for the event.

Eight teams are competing in the event including the former champions Rajasthan Royals and runner-up Chennai Super Kings.

The teams in the fray are:

1. Rajasthan Royals
2. Chennai Super Kings
3. Kings XI Punjab
4. Mumbai Indians
5. Kolkata Knight Riders
6. Delhi Daredevils
7. Bangalore Royal Challengers
8. Hyderabad Deccan Chargers

Mumbai Indians lead by Sachin Tendulkar and Chennai Super Kings lead by Indian skipper Dhoni will play in the first match. The second match is between Warne lead Rajasthan Royals and new captain Kevin Pietersen lead Bangalore Royal Challengers.

All these 8 teams will compete each other and the top four teams will play in the Semi-Final. The final is slated for May 24, 2009.

Champions League in September with $5 Million Prize Money

The Champions League involving four countries--Australia, England, South Africa and India will be played in September. The top 2 teams from each country's domestic T20 tournament will qualify for this tournament with the winner walking away with $5 Million.

Already, Rajasthan Royals lead by Shane Warne and Chennai Super Kings XI lead by Mahedra Singh Dhoni have qualified from IPL.

The complete detail is yet to be confirmed, but Cricket Australia are currently drawing up the regulations which will deal with the issues of Indian Cricket League players and potential conflicts for players involved with more than one team.

The event will conduct 15 matches in 10 days. The prize money will be distributed to the first four positions.

The teams qualified are:

Western Australia from Australia
Victoria from Australia

Dolphis from South Africa
Titans from South Africa

Rajasthan Royals from IPL, India
Chennai Super Kings from IPL, India

England's domestic T20 will begin next week and the two teams will be finalized soon.

This event throws up a number of potential conflicts, not least involving an players linked to the unofficial ICL. Chris Read, Vikram Solanki, Stuart Law, Niall O'Brien and Paul Nixon all appeared in the ICL, and if their counties qualify their inclusion will be a major conflict with the Indian board.

The other issue that will occur is involving players who are contracted to more than one of the teams involved, for example Mike Hussey who played for Chennai in the IPL and is also from Western Australia. The clash could also happen with overseas players in county cricket, for example David Hussey, who plays for Nottinghamshire and Victoria.

We have to wait and see what decisions are taken for the issues relating to ICL.

Middle Order Did not Click: Sehwag

In the post match confernece, the Delhi skipper mentioned that his team's poor performance of middle order batsman costed the match. The Delhi Daredevils dream of entering the finals was shattered after their bowling and batting department collapsed.

He backed his bowlers by saying that they cannot do anything when the batsmen were going against them. "I never once thought the match was in our grasp. After the first three overs when their openers started the assault, whatever our bowlers could do, they tried. But when the batsmen are hitting the bowlers like that, it's difficult. Even veteran McGrath conceded 14 runs in an over," he said.

He further said, "the middle order didn't click for us in the past matches which cost us. The top three batsmen had a lot of pressure and it's not easy to go and perform in all the matches. So if we had a strong middle order batting line-up maybe it would be a different scenario."

He should be ready to focus on the next tour of India and then the next season of IPL.

Match 57, Semi Final 1: Rajasthan Enters Final!

In the first knock-out stage, Rajasthan beat Delhi and entered the finals of the first IPL season. They have beaten comfortably and will wait for a day to see who their opponent will be.

Put into bat, Royals started their innings with the openers crossing 50 for the first wicket. In the crucial game, both Smith and Asnodkar played sensibly and added 65 for the first wicket before Maharoof provided the break through by dismissing Smith caught by Dhawan for 25. In the same over, Asnodkar got out caught by Tiwari for 39 off 21 balls with 6 fours and a six. Though McGrath gave good start for Delhi by just giving 1 run in the first over, he was not able to sustain it. He went for 7 runs including a four in his second over and then for 3 continuous fours by smith.

Asnodkar was dropped on 23 by Maharoof in the fine leg when he tried to pull Mahesh. In the same over he hit a six and a four as Rajasthan reached 58 for no loss in 6 overs.

Sohail Tanvir was sent as number 3 for maintaining the tempo, but he fell chepaly for 5 for Maharoof. Watson and Kaif added 52 runs for the 4th wicket in 29 balls. Dangerous batsman Watson once again proved that he is there for scoring runs as quick as possible. He scored 52 off 29 balls with 4 fours and 3 sixes.

Watson went over Mahesh with 2 sixes and a four to score 21 runs in an over. Kaif was bowled by Mishra for 12, once again did not scorre for his team.

Yousuf Pathan continued with ihs form scoring 45 off 21 balls with 3 fours and 4 sixes. His innings along with Watson proved vital for Rajasthan and Delhi should accpet that they both took the game away from Delhi Daredevils.

Rajasthan ended their innings with 192 on the board. Maharoof finished with 3 for 34 in his 4 overs.

Delhi started with their star openers Sehwag and Gambhir. The start was not as good as Delhi would have expected. Sehwag was caught by Kohli off Watson for 3. Gambhir followed him soon in the last ball of the 4th over leaving Delhi struggle at 23 for 2.

Dhawan and Tiwari were not able to withstand the pressure and the huge run chase. They fell for 5 and duck respectively. Dilshan scored 33 and provided some resistence. Karthik, who scored 50 and took Delhi to semi-finals added 10 this time.

All batsman except Gambhir, Dilshan and Kathik, got out for single digit score and that did not do any good for Delhi.

They were bowled out for 87 in 16.1 overs and denied themselves a chance to enter finals.

SR Watson was declared man of the match for his 52 and 3 wickets.

Match 53: Rajasthan Win the Last Ball Thriller! One More Last Ball Loss for Sachin!

What a match! The last ball win is always a good food for eyes and emotions in cricket, especially when the home team wins it!

In a tight game where it is crucial for Mumbai, lost the game in the last ball, one more time! Last time it was against Kings XI where they did not score the run, and this time, they gave 2 runs off the last ball.

Last over requiring 15 runs, with two inexperienced international players in the crease. Fernando, the Sri Lankan fast bowler had the ball in hand.

First ball was a single by Patel on a full toss. The second ball took inside edge of Jadeja and went to fine leg where Nehra did a wonderful diving stop to save the boundary, but the batsmen run three.

11 required off 4 balls; Patel hit a six over long on. It was pitched up and it was lofted over long on.

5 required off 3 balls; Single was scored off next ball; 4 required off 2 balls.

1 run scored off a full toss by sending it to third man; they run the first run faster but couldn't come back for two.

3 runs required of the last ball; Fernando bowled down the leg and it was declared wide. Poor bowling from an experienced bowler.

2 runs required of last ball; Tension everywhere!

Patel tried to pull it, but the mistimed shot went left of Fernando who could have stopped it easily and in fact could have run out one of them and saved the game for Mumbai. He missed it and the ball went to long on. The batsman run for a single and return for second. The ball thrown to Jayasuriya at the bowlers end, where he misses to collect it cleanly and they complete the second run. The ball pops out of Jayasuriya's hand and the run out chance was missed. Nothing was going in favor of Mumbai. If Fernando or Jayasuriya picked the ball neatly, it would have been in favor of Mumbai or at least would have gone for bowl-out.

Now, Mumbai has to win their next game against Bangalore Royal Challengers and have Chennai lose their game against Deccan Chargers.

For once thought to be an easy target of 146, Rajasthan messed it up with poor shot selection. Kamran Akmal got out in a peculiar fashion. The ball was hit to point by Asnodkar and they wnet for the run. Pandey hit the stumps direct at the striker's end where Akmal was trying to ignore the ball, jumped in the air and the bat was also not grouded.

Patel top scored with 40 not out for Rajasthan and Jadeja scored 23 not out.

Earlier, put into bat, Mumbai started the innings slowly. Jayasuriya was not able to time the ball and lot of shots was mistimed. The ball did not come to the bat and that added to the problem for hte batsman.

Jayasuriya scored 38 and Sachin 30. At the end of 10 overs, Mumbai were 60 for no loss. They lost wickets going for runs in the next 10 overs and were struggling at 120 for 7 in 19 overs. It was the last over which turned the match and gave hope to Mumbai. Takawale, the Mumbai wicket keeper scored 25 runs in the last over bowled by Watson.

The first ball was a top edge of the bouncer and went over keeper's head for a four. The second ball was another bouncer and called no ball and one run scored. Raje scored a single to give strike to Takawale.

Third ball was a six over long off. The slower ball was picked very well. Fourth ball was a boundary at backward point. The fifth took an edge and went over keeper's head for anothe rboundary. Last ball was a full toss and sent over ponit for hat-trick four. 25 runs in the last over and took the total to 145.

Sohail Tanvir once again bowled a superb spell containing Mumbai Indians in the early part of the innings. He has been chosen as the man of the match and will be given the Purple Cap for securing most wickets in the IPL as of this match.

With this win at home, Rajasthan Royals have won 6 out of 7 of their matches at home, which is a record in the IPL.
