Royal Challengers beat Chennai, to meet DC in Finals!
The two South Indian teams that would clash in the finals are Hyderabad Deccan Chargers and Bangalore Royal Challengers.
In the second semi final, Royal Challengers beat the tournament favorite Chennai Super Kings by 6 wickets with 7 balls remaining.
I would say that the batsmen of CSK let them down than the bowlers. Restricting 147 in the knock-out stage is always difficult especially in a batting wicket.
Kumble asked Chennai to bat first who scored 146 in 20 overs losing 5 wickets. Parthiv Patel top scored with 36 and for Royal Challengers, Pandey top scored with 44. He played a wonderful innings and all the fours were treat to the eyes! His century in the previous match must have added lot of confidence to the batsmen!
The teams finished last in the first season have bounced back very well to meet in the finals!
So, it is DC v. RC in the final.

Match 28: RC v. MI: RC Shocks MI, Debutant Preez Strikes for RC!
Royal Challengers lead by Kumble for the 2nd time, won it for them once again. Thanks to wonderful bowling by the debutant Dillon du Preez who picked 3 crucial wickets to put MI in the back seat.
Preez picked Sachin in his first over 3rd delivery. Sachin went for the drive, the thick outside edge took the ball straight to Dravid at slip. Next delivery, he picked Rahane with the same delivery, same shot but caught by Uthappa.
In his next over, he picked the agressive Duminy who came down the track for a slog. The ball took the bottom edge on the way to the keeper. Earlier, Praveen started the first over of the innings with a maiden keeping the dangerous Jayasuriya quiet.
Bravo and Jayasuriya built the innings for MI. They took MI from 23 for 3 in 5.2 overs to 83 in 14 overs. Jayasuriya started the agression in the 8th over with a six and a four of Preez. The next two overs had one boundary and few singles to take MI to 53 for 3 in 10 overs.
Jayasuriya scored couple of boundaries in Kumble's over to move MI to 77 in 13 overs. Merwe picked Jayasuriya in his first ball caught at mid wicket by Vinay Kumar for 52, which came off 43 balls with 6 fours and a six.
Bravo and Nayar took the responsibility and completed the innings with a respectable 149 on board. Bravo went on to score unbeaten 50 off 40 balls with a four and 2 sixes. Nayar was unbeaten on 29 in 20 balls.
They added 66 in 35 balls to give a chance to MI bowlers to give a try at RC. In the 19th over, Merwe went 2 continuous sixes with the second one caught by Uthappa, but he could not balance his body, he fell on the boundary line.
The last ball of the innings was a no ball by Preez. Nayar was able to hit a single of free hit delivery.
Chasing 150 at 7.5 per over, Bangalore Royal Challengers chase it well. Though Jaffer went for 7, I should say that everything went according to RC's plan. It was their day.
Kallis took the responsibility as a senior player and handled Malinga, Zaheer and Bhajji well. Uthappa took played according to the situation and helped Kallis on the other hand. They both took RC to the winning total with an unbeaten 126-run partnership in 91 balls.
Sachin tried 7 bowlers including himself but nothing went in favor of him. Zaheer opened the bowling and went for 9 runs including 2 fours by Kallis. Bravo on the other end went for 12 runs. He also went for 2 fours one each by Jaffer and Kallis. Zaheer picked Jaffer caught by Nayar for 7 in his 2nd over. That's the only successful moment for MI durng their bowling.
Malinga was brought into attack in place of Bravo. Kallis hit the first ball using his pack to square leg for a six. The third ball went for a flat six clearing the infield over point. Uthappa, for his part, played off the pads to midwicket for a wonderful boundary.
Kallis was in firing mood today as he hit two more fours of Nayar to take RC to 51 in 5 overs. Malinga bowled brilliant maiden mixing his pace and slower deliveries restricting Uthappa. Things slowed down from that over as RC went to strategic break with 74 on the board.
Tendulkar tried his arm. He went for 6 in his first over but was punished in his second with three boundaries which made the equation easy. 43 from 36 balls.
Uthapp hit a huge six of Bravo and also scored a boundary in the last ball. Jayasuriya bowled the 18th over and went for 15 runs including a boundary and a six.
With 1 run required in 2 overs, Kallis scored the winning run. What an innings from Kallis! He was rightly given the man of the match award!

Kings XI Punjab wins the last over thriller! Upsets Mumbai!
Kings XI Punjab pulled off a dramatic win over Mumbai Indians in a low scoring encounter. The pitch was not favorite for batting and against expectations, Yuvi decided to bat. Kings XI managed to score 119 and set 6 runs per over target for Sachin's Mumbai Indians.
It was thought to be a easy target, with the way they played the previous game against KKR.
But, Sachin and Jayasuria fell cheaply for 1 and 0 respectively. The middle order also did not stay long and lost wickets regularly.
Poor shot selection by Bravo turned the match. He hit a six but got out in the next ball trying for another six. The team already lost 2 wickets with 4 on the board and he should have played a sensible innings.
Duminy scored 59 and tried his best to give a victory to MI but fell on the last over 4th ball.
The last over required 12, bowled by Abdulla. The first ball was 2 runs, 2nd ball was no run, but the next ball was a wide.
4 Balls, 9 runs, Duminy on strike. He scored another 2 in the 3rd ball, but fell caught inches away from boundary going for a six over mid wicket.
Last 2 balls needed 7 runs, and SS Tiwari scored 2, last ball required 5. A four would have pushed for the 2nd super-over, but he managed only a single at extra cover.
Kings XI Punjab 119 for 8 in 20 overs (Goel 12, Sangakkara 45, Yuvaraj 10, Malinga 2 for 12) beat Mumbai Indians 116 for 7 in 20 overs (Duminy 59, Bravo 15, Nayar 15, Irfan Pathan 2 for 20, Abdulla 2 for 19)

Match 16: DC v. CSK: Poor Captaincy by Dhoni Gives DC Four In A Row!
Having known that the pitch is becoming slow and it will help slower bowlers, I am not sure why Dhoni didn't start with Muralitharan. With left handed Gilly opening and Murali bowling off spinners, it might have created a difference in the game. I am not saying this after seeing Murali bowling well, but was saying well before the start of the DC innings.
Though it was a good move to bring in Raina, who picked two wickets to give a come back for CSK. But, the field placing and the adjustments were not good. He should have had Raina closer at gully when Balaji opened the bowling. The first ball was almost a catch if he was little closer. Balaji does not bowl at super fast, so he could have standing little front. After that, it was fully Gilly's game as he smashed sixes and fours to take DC to 31 for no loss in the first two overs--a record.
Chasing 166, the start was apt as Balaji gave away 11 runs in his first over and Gony was demolished with 3 fours and a six by Gibbs.
Even after this massive attack by Gibbs and Gilly, Dhoni continued to use Balaji who again gave away couple of sixes and a four. The first change Morkel conceeded 12 runs giving 60 in the first 4 overs.
Muralitharan and Raina stopped the flood of runs while Raina picked Gilly caught at short third man. He scored 44 of 19 balls including 5 fours and 3 sixes.
Laxman did not last long as he also got out in the 2nd over of Raina playing the same shot as Gilly and got out in the same fashion.
At the strategy break, DC were 85 for 2. Runs were coming in as Gibbs was staying in the crease. Rohit got out in the 14th over caught behind of Balaji.
Smith hit a six and a four of Oram's over which changed the equation to 37 of of last 5 overs. Murali trapped Smith lbw for 12 in just 5 balls. He restricted Bilakhia for the remaining four balls and gave away just 2 runs and made Dhoni's man come back to the game.
Morkel once again did not perform both with the bat. His hip height no ball pitched on Dhoni's leg and went between his leg for a four. Morkel gave away 10 runs in that over and revised the target to 25 of 18 balls.
Oram gave away just 9 runs in the 18th over including a four by Gibbs. Last 2 overs required 16 and 8 runs were scored in the over by Morkel.
Dhoni gave the pads to Parthiv Patel and everyone expected that he is going to have go at the batsen, but gave the ball to Balaji. First ball was a six by Gibbs, single of the second ball and the third ball went for a winning boundary.
Gibbs carried the bat through the innings and remaining not out on 69 off 56 balls with 6 fours and 2 sixes. He was rightly chosen for the MoM award.
Earlier, put in to bat, CSK made 165 where they expected to score more than 180. Parthiv was caught behind on the leg side of the first over for a duck. Hayden and Raina played sensibly, adding 64 for the 2nd wicket.
Gilly rightly brought slow bowlers--Venugopal Rao and Rohit Sharma. Though they went for few runs, Rohit picked Raina, caught in his own bowling.
Dhoni once again did not succeed with the bat as he got out for a mere 22 of 22 balls. Oram and Hayden were the man for CSK as Hayden missed another 50 by one run.
Ohja once again picked two important wickets--Hayden and Dhoni, in the same over to put CSK in the back foot. CSK were 102 for 2 in 12 overs crumbled to 103 for 4 in 13 overs. Morkel scored 13 off 7 balls with a six. He is expected to contribute more as he did for South Africa against Australia, but he couldn't do it.
Badrinath was not able to give strike to Oram in the last few deliveries. Oram scored an unbeaten 41 to give a fighting total of 165.

Match 9: DD v. CSK: Complacent CSK loses! Cool DD Wins!
The complecent Chennai Super Kings lost the easy battle against Delhi Daredevils. Viru won the toss and elected to bat. Luck didn't favor Gambhir as he was caught behind the very first ball.
Sehwag, the other danger man also fell in the next over for 6. The nice opportunity to captalize was missed by Dhoni's men. De Villiers and Dilshan did not protect their wicket, instead they started attacking. They added 68 for the third wicket in just 6.3 overs. Morkel conceeded 4 fours--1 by deVilliers and 3 by Dilshan. In the next over by Flintoff, Dilshan hit a four and a six. They scored 32 runs in the 4th and 5th over.
Dilshan scored his fifty before getting caught of a full toss. He reached his 50 in just 24 balls which included 7 fours and 2 sixes. At the end of 10 overs, DD were 96 for 3 with DeVilliers on 25 and Dinesh Karthik on 14. They added 38 in 5.3 overs.
DeVilliers took it from there and reached his 50 in 35 balls and went on to score an unbeaten 105. The 50 to 100 took him just 16 balls. He was lucky to be dropped by his country mate A Morkel at long on off Gony. It was a sitter when he was at 50. His 105 had 5 fours and 6 sixes in 54 balls. This is where CSK lost their match. If that catch was not dropped, they would have won this game. Similarly, in MI match, Hayden dropped a sitter.
In the 74-run partnership between DeVilliers and Tiwari, DeVilliers scored 65 runs. He helped DD reach the highest score in season 2 by any team.
Balaji was the pick of the bowler for CSK, picking 3 for 19 in his 4 overs.
Chasing 190 requires a good start and aptly it was provided by Hayden and Parthiv Patel. They were going at the rate of 10 runs per over and put 57 for the first wicket in 5.2 overs. Hayden did not stop his attacking attitude. He scored another 50 in just 22 balls--fastest fifty by him.
At the end of 10 overs, CSK were 106 for 2 requiring another 84 in 10 overs with 8 wickets in hand. What happened after that? Big surprise!
Vettori turned the match once again for DD. He picked Dhoni 3rd ball after the strategic break. Raina and Flintoff kept the momentum with 51 requiring of 6 overs.
Sangwan, the best of hte pick for DD picked crucial wickets at important times. He picked Raina off a full toss, caught at long-on by DeVilliers.
It was not Morkel's day as he dropped catches and gave away 41 runs in his 4 overs. The man who demolished the Australian attack in the OIDI and T20 series, could not repeat it today for CSK. Believe me, he scored 13 off 14 balls which had only one boundary. This is the usual Morkel.
Last 4 overs required 34. Badrinath and Morkel could not do much except to score singles. Last 3 overs requied 29, and the last 2 requiring 24! Badri got out Vettori in the 3rd ball of 19th. Gony hit a six in the 5th and was run out on the last ball.
Last over required 15 runs, but Joginder Sharma was on strike. What a strategy? Experienced player Morkel in crease and he could not control the innings! Joginder scored two each of the first two balls, not giving strike to main player Morkel.
Third ball was run out on the third ball, fourth ball was another run out. Balaji ran even before the ball bowled, but Morkel hits straight to covers where Sangwan passes the ball to Nannes and he removed the bails. Fifth ball was a single leaving CSK requiring 10 runs of 1 ball and no run was scored, giving DD a 9-run victory.
The match in hand was lost by CSK, but Dhoni mentioned as if they're never close. In the last 10 overs, CSK required just 84 runs with 8 wickets in hand, most of the teams would reach this target in any form of the game. This day doesn't seem to be CSK's day.
Dhoni was not aggressive in the field, once again. Watching the match through TV, it looked like he never gave any input or encourgament to the fielders to be aggressive. Three runs were picked where it should have been two, Two were scored it if actually was a single. The way, Dhoni collects the ball never shows that he is a professional keeper. He seems to be so lethargic and does not looks like a cool captain. You can be aggressive, attentive, but not arrogant.

SL to review security for IPL
The Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has said that it will wait for a security report from the IPL before sending its players for the IPL 2. The IPL is negogiating the dates with the Indian Government because it is clashing with the general elections.
The government has rejected the schedule twice and has asked for revised schedule. It also asked the IPL to discuss with the respective states to get their nod before coming to government.
"The national players are contracted to SLC and it is our duty to protect and assist them," Ranathunga said. With the Sri Lankan players were attacked in Pakistan during their 2nd test, there can be no second opinion about checking the security arrangements thoroughly before agreeing to play the season.
