Match 8: DC v. RC: Gilly and Rohit Chop off Challengers!

In an important match for Royal Challengers, the skipper of Hyderabad Deccan Charger's Gilchrist and Rohit Sharma chopped off the Challengers with a comfortable win. After deciding to bat, Gilchrist and Gibbs opened the innings for DC. Gilly was in aggressive mood smashing the ball all over the park. He hit 3 continuous fours in the first over of the innings bowled by Praveen Kumar.

Steyn was also punished in the 2nd over with 15 runs including two fours and a six by Gilly. Royal Challengers were not able to stop the momentum built by Gilchrist and Gibbs.

Gibbs was unlucky to be given LBW of Praveen. Laxman could not add much value as he departed for 5 off 10 balls, caught by Steyn of Ryder.

Rohit Sharma and Gilchrist added 61 for the 3rd wicket in 6 overs. Gilly scored 71 off 45 balls with 6 fours and 5 sixes. Rohit Sharma was also equaly demolishing the bowlers as he hit 3 sixes of former Indian captain Kumble. All sixes were beautifully hit and perfect cricket shots. The timing was perfect and all of them were on the leg side. His first half centiry in this edition came in 28 balls which included 1 four and 5 sixes.

The lower order contributed little and it helped the team to put the highest total of this edition in the first 8 games.

Bangalore Royal Challengers did not have a good start. Ryder was bowled the first ball, by a superb delivery from Edwards knocking his off stump. Though Kallis hit two fours in the same over, no batsmen looked dangerous as wickets were falling frequently. The moment the batsmen looked dangerous of scoring runs, he got out.

Kohli and Dravid top scored for RC with 50 and 48 respectively. They added 53 for the 5th wicket in 5.1 overs, but that was too late as RC did not have hitters and enough wickets in hand. Earlier, Kallis, Uthappa and Pietersen did not improvise the run rate as RC reached their 50 in the 9th over. Their Hundred came in 15th over. With 85 required in 33 balls almost an impossible target.

Praveen hit couple of sixes at the end as they needed little over 50 in 2 overs.

This victory has put Deccan Chargers at the top of the points table with 4 points while Royal Challengers have just 2 points in three matches.
